*U* UFO Website

The *U* UFO Database is a story in itself.

This page is about the website you are visiting.

Having already done the research and programming for the database
only to see its underlying DOS platform go obsolete, I put up
this site so people could at least see some of the work.

Most of these pages consist of a *U* image, either a UFO sightings map, or a statistical display which dominates the page.
I add brief comments in the remaining space plus links to related pages.     I try to keep pages to just one screen size to avoid scrolling issues.   Its easier on the eyes, and yes this page is an exception.

The website is written in straight HTML language, the lingua franca of the Web.   There is no Perl, Flash, or RSS code.
There are no frames, cookies, applets, or Cascading Style Sheets to confuse this webmaster or your computer system.
I use one short line of javascript to break out of frames, in case anyone tries to co-opt this work as a subset of theirs.

All the UFO maps and statistics displays are captured from the DOS *U* Program,   then converted into .gif images.
The .gif image files are very small,  10 to 20 KB   because *U* displays are clean and simple like the globe map above.
That and brief explanatory text makes these pages load much faster.

A few pictures like these ( Eltanin Antenna ) were best rendered as .jpg images.
Other formats were poor quality or took even longer to download.

There is no creepy background music, nothing flashing or scrolling by, no vapid grey aliens or large inconclusive UFO pictures.
Without bandwidth clogging garbage,   people on slow connections can browse at a more comfortable pace.   There are no banner ads, pop-up or pop-under ads, no sidebars, nothing like that.   The aim here is to deliver the most information at the fastest rate.

PRIVACY POLICY:

This site does not set or retrieve cookies.   You are free to browse anonymously.
I periodically check traffic in my access_log files.   Those records indicate a DNS number which is often
traceable to your ISP (Earthlink, AOL etc.),   and/or a browser version (Windows, Macintosh etc.) ;
which Search Engine (if any) referred you,   and sometimes which country you are from.
This also tells me which pages / images are the most popular.

Nothing in this identifies you as an individual.

I can't see your email address unless you write in.   Even then, addresses are kept private and never sold.

For now at least, this site is non-commercial.   Unless and until I get up a saleable (Windows) version of the
*U* UFO Database, you won't even find an order form.
If unexpected ads do pop up,   you should check your system for Adware worms!

*U* is not a UFO Reporting Center,   nor is it a clearing house for recent events.
