Worse than bad dates, missing times and details, are interesting UFO sightings in
places that cannot be found.   Here is a short selection of these stinkers.
Some of them were actually located as noted below ..

BAIRIO PARAISO dos BARBEIROS, Brazil.     LDLN #84. SBEDV 51,53 {Brazil) & Magonia # 653.
    3 sources, and none say which STATE in Brazil.

BELLUCO, Chile.   Magonia Catalog #666 from Spaceview (Issue not given).
    FOUND!   The real name is Pelluco, in the 10th District of Chile:   72:54W - 41:30S near Puerto Montt.
    Thanks to Diego Zuñiga and Luis R. Gonzales who put this matter to rest.

BINN, South Korea (actually BIIN or PIIN)   Saucer destroys Hawk missile and its launcher ! [1974]
    FOUND! 126:36E-36:08N per info from Jack Berthy who served there, and Candy Peterson who found the proper name.

BRAINBRIDGE, Ontario.   APRO BULLETIN, Vol.24 #7.

CACTUS FLATS, CA.   (NUFORC report)     FOUND!   by Sonya Johnson.   A campground near Big Bear Lake
    NE of San Bernadino CA, it doesn't show on state maps.   Thanks Sonya.

CAIOGGIA, Italy.   Loren Gross: UFOs a History, 1951:   = CHIOGGIA near Venice per Massimiliano Grandi and others.

CALCEROSA, Italy.   Lumieres dans la Nuit [LDLN] #104.   Probably COLCERASA now listed.

CAMERACU Island, Brazil.   BLUNDELL, Nigel & BOAR, Roger: The WORLDS GREATEST UFO MYSTERIES
    An entire island disappears.     World's Greatest Geological Mystery.

CANAGUA, Brazil.   FSR Case Histories, Supplement #2.
    There is a Canagua river in SW Venezuela, and of course Managua, Nicaragua.

CARBONDALE, New Jersey . . does not exist.   Somebody misread a map and moved the celebrated 9 November 1974
crash retrieval of Carbondale, Pennsylvania over to NJ.   Over 40 copycat web pages still parrot New Jersey !
NB:   One of the teenaged witnesses confessed the hoax after a 6-volt railroad lantern was recovered from the lake.
Rumor has it that some Roswellesque hoopla is planned for the 30th anniversary.

CASTELO di AGOGNA, Italy.   FOUND!   "Castello d'Agogna" (note spelling) a town in Pavia province, Lombardy,

CHENGDU, GANSU (prov), China; FSR Vol.28 #6 provides Gansu province
    which does at least exist.

CHERNS, England.   Jacques: UFOs in SPACE, Anatomy of a Phenomenon. pg.103

CHICO, Venezuela, near Cerro de las Tres Torres, is actually CHIRICO, near Carora in Lara State.
    "Chico" came from the APRO Bulletin, and books by the Lorenzens and Frank Edwards.
    Thanks to Carlos Sanchez, who set this straight in 2004, 50 years after the events.

CHINTHURST HILL, England, near Broadwater Lake:   FSR 1960 #5, -and- Magonia Catalog # 507.
    FOUND!   Near Godalming, SE of Guildford, Surrey, England. Roughly 0:36W - 51:11N
    Now FSR and Magonia:   Try and find Dead Man's Cave near Motorcycle Hill in California..

CIRNOVTI, USSR. [ No particular SSR given.. ]
    HOBANA, Ion & WEVERBERGH, Julien: UFOS from BEHIND the IRON CURTAIN. pg. 280
    Possibly Chernovtzi AKA Cernauti in Moldova, which is historically part of Romania,
    as Ovidiu Vitan kindly pointed out. Then again, it could be Chernovty in the Ukraine.

COCDSESTI, Romania.      FSR Vol. 25 # 3.

CROZIA, (southern) Italy:     FSR Vol. 35 # 4.     There is at least one Crosia, Italy.
    Croazia is Italian for Croatia across the sea, as Guiseppe Stilo kindly pointed out.

DAI al AOUAGRI, Morocco:     Quincy Catalog & Magonia Catalog # 94.
A few Dais al Aouagri dot the Sahara, but not in Morocco.

DOUEIKA, Greece.     GROSS, Loren. UFOS a History..

ELTANIN ANTENNA     Numerologists constructed highly elaborate Grid Lines based on this strange object
photographed in deep Antarctic seas.     Many have it in the wrong place.   One map online put it by the Palmer Peninsula!    
The actual location is shown on this MAP   . . but that's not the point.     The world famous 'Grid Pole' was a sponge.

    An unlikely sounding place name for Tanzania.

    Probably Garisenda (note spelling!), a famous TOWER in Bologna, "Torre della Garisenda"

    Forgive me for asking.   How do you lose an entire Chinese county?

MAILOMETE, New Zealand:     GROSS, Loren. UFOs a History ( book unknown )

MANDURANA, Queensland, Australia:     SPENCER, John & EVANS,Hillary (ed):
    PHENOMENON-40 YEARS of F.S. pg 256.
    ==> Brett Holman found it as MOUNT Mandurana. <==
    The actual report was of an "unusual phenomenon" in a cane field East of Mt. Mandurana.

MENDIOZACA, Argentina.   No Province given.   Magonia Catalog #908, which cites LDLN #95 but doesn't say which.
    There were TWO of them!   LDLN #95-A page 19, gives us MENDIOZALA, note Letter 'L' in 'Colon Department'.
    Recent drudgery finally turned up MENDIOLAZA in CORDOBA Province (Argentina does not have Departments)
    (Note reversed L and Z) at 64:18W - 31:16N.     About 15 copycat web pages give us
    MENDIOZACA regardless.     Some even cite LDLN as a source which they clearly never read.
    FSR Case Histories issue #16 calls it Los Cigarrales, with the date 10 June 1968.
    LDLN 95-a spells that 'Los Ciganales' with date of 14 June, but provides the weekday (Monday)
    taking the date back to 10 June!     If all this makes you dizzy, you are not alone.

MULDEN, Northern Territory, Australia:     LDLN Contact Lecteurs series.   Issue # unknown.
    Probably Moulden,NT   130:58E - 12:30S   Found by Richard Johnson locally.
    Moulden is a few km NNW of Darwin.

NARRAWAL, Tasmania, Australia:     FSR Case Histories series, # 7.
    Possibly Narrawa, Tasm:   146:08E - 41:23S.   Credit: Brett Holman.

NORRIDGE HILL, Wiltshire, England: Awareness Quarterly, Summer 1968 + /r79 pg 40.
    A 2004 Google search returned 4 results :   This page, one dead link, and two copycats.
    More recent findings suggest spots about 2 miles NW of Warminster.   Credit 'LS'.

NOVII ATOS, Abkhasia, USSR:     /r84 pg 31.
    Abkhasia is hard to find. Novii Atos fell off of the Earth.

    There are three ( 3 ) Penryns, but no Penroy.

    FOUND! as Uherské - Hradiste at 49:01:46N x 17:26:23E, (D:M:S) Elevation 177m

VALE de MILHAIOS, Portugal:     /r230.   Found at last?   Looks like it.
    VALE de MILHAÇOS (note spelling) near Corroios, near Lisbon, south of Tagus river.

VILLAS ROSAS, Argentina: " Near Bahia Blanca ".     FSR Supplement #12 & Magonia # 656.

    Another Chinese county vanishes into thin air.

YAKOVLEVSKAYA, USSR:     /r84 pg. 33
    This place exists!     All 224 of them, spread over 7 time zones.

YELLOW FALLS, Texas:     Antonio Perego ( Italy ) & Magonia # 404.
    This is my favorite of all. Yellow Falls,TX is a complete fiction.
    Perego spells it "Jellow Falls" as the Italian alphabet has no "Y".
    YF is easy to find on the Internet, but don't waste time looking in Texas.


This list above is FAR from complete.   It results from futile trips to the library and uncounted hours, months, years of painful fruitless search.

It is up to the UFO investigator and author to identify definite, unique locations for UFO sightings.
This should   never   be left to the helpless reader .. having to throw darts at a map, or to choose between identical place names.

If an author/investigator cannot uniquely identify where a UFO sighting took place, who should credit the rest of the breathless details?
Try to imagine how a biologist, a salesman or even a theologian would be regarded, if he didn't know Austria from Australia.

This is not entirely ignorance, laziness and stupidity.
Copycats propagate and amplify errors yes,   but some place names appear to be complete fiction.
