McGrady UFO sighting: Pennsylvania, 1956

*U* UFO Home Page

Here is the strange tale of Charles W. McGrady of Butler, PA in early September 1956.

All four pages below were copied from UFOs: A HISTORY, 1956 September-October
by Loren Gross.     Self published, Fremont, CA 2003.

If it were not for Loren's fine hard work, many cases like this would never come to light.
Some issues of the UFOS: A HISTORY series are available from Arcturus Books

The McGrady case is a head scratcher.     While the easiest explanation is a hoax,
that doesn't quite ring true either.     Sadly, only one of the two witnesses was interviewed.

Here is a map of the area, taken from a 1964 Chevron roadmap, 8 years after the fact.
Look for a small circle 2 inches East of Butler, PA, and due south from Chicora, near Fenelton.
The "slag road" was partially paved by 1964.     Chicora, PA to the North was the scene
of a spectacular meteor in 1938.     Only two small pieces were ever recovered.
