Sightings counts are greatest in 1952 (39) and 1954 (30) during the colonial era, with a minor resurgence (23) in the mid 1970s. The most productive sources were Fawcett and Greenwood, LDLN, Loren Gross, Aime Michele, Charles Bowen etc. There are few African cases from recent years, good data are hard to get.
Wheelus AFB near Tripoli Libya, now long gone, sourced 4 cases. Former European colonists provided others. Algeria has the most listings (53) followed by Morocco (44), Ivory Coast states (12 combined) Tunisia (10) with the rest scattered thinly.
